Migraine and Headache Pain Control

WellStep Atlanta offers migraine headache sufferers a unique treatment plan that can dramatically reduce or eliminate headaches compared to typical headache clinics that you may be familiar with.

If you suffer from bad headaches, they may have worsened and become more frequent if you take significant amounts of narcotic or barbiturate medication (Vicodin, Lortab, Percocet, Fioricet, etc.) Taking too many “Triptans” such as Imitrex and Maxalt can also cause your headaches to worsen dramatically. Migraine headaches caused by medication overuse are called “Rebound” or “Transformed” headaches. Preventive medications such as Depakote and Inderal are not very effective in these cases.

If you are taking too many narcotic medications and are an appropriate candidate, we can help you break your headache cycle by prescribing Suboxone (buprenorphine) which often helps to control your headache pain while getting off the narcotic medications.

At WellStep Atlanta, we can also prescribe intravenous DHE treatment which is often very effective in dramatically reducing medication overuse headache pain for prolonged periods of time.

After a Medication Overuse Cycle is broken, preventive medications for migraine headaches become effective again. Our clinicians utilize state of the art FDA approved medications as well as clinically proven supplements for migraine headache prevention. At WellStep Atlanta, we now have preventive medications that have minimal to no side effects for most patients.

We also make sure you are aware of headache and migraine triggers, especially what foods and food additives cause headaches.

When you do get a headache, it is important to catch it early and we will prescribe medications to stop the headache (abortive medications) as appropriate.
